Royal Shout Out!
Here's a recap from our Boston boys at Open Bicycle on the race they threw this past weekend:
With 20-degree weather, gusting winds and our first snowfall, The Royal Flush Poker Run was better than we imagined! Over 80 people from all over New England collected cards, drank beer, ate burritos, completed the Poker Run and partied to their heart's content.
Four local establishments (The Otherside Cafe, The Independent, Redbones, and Charlie's) hosted the pub-hopping cyclists as they braved the weather for drinks and camaraderie. The fifth and final stop was hosted by Marty Walsh of Geekhouse Bikes at his Allston studio, where everyone made a huge mess eating (100!) free Chipotle burritos and drinking Blue Ribbon beer courtesy of Pabst.
From there it was on to Middlesex Lounge in Cambride for some BoldSprints action! Our own Brek. One was crazier on the turntables than anyone on the rollers, and over 50 would-be pista racers gave it their all. DJ Frank White stopped in after his trip to the Boston Music Awards and laid down a little heavy metal for the last races. Middlesex was at capacity as over 100 bike riders danced, raced, and carried on until the wee hours.
Open's first event was one of Boston cycling cultures largest social gatherings to date. Our goal with this event was to bring all of the different cycle-minded crowds together, build new friendships and build the local culture. Success! Now Go Ride Your Bike!
